I am deeply deeply impressed. It's the first wish I would make if I found the genie's magic lamp. I love watching the YouTube videos where a musician takes you through a piece of music / recording and explains the structure and what's happening. Watched a great one on the theory of music where the guy segued from Mozart to the Beatles demonstrating how similar the underlying structures were 😎
Thank you, although I cant claim to be an incredibly talented or intuitive musician.
Im good, but because im a bloody minded bar steward. Im never good at anything to begin with, no natural talent of any kind, but I'm the soul who'll practice relentlessly for hours a day for months and years until I've mastered my chosen task.
I've some knowledge of musical theory, but Im not a great improvised or composer, just dont have that talent. What I can do though is mimic, mor at least approximate, any piece of music that some other bugger has already come up with.
Think of me in these terms - im a pretty good karaoke singer, but im no Pavarotti. The important thing for me ks that I enjoymit and find it a great release from the stresses of daily life. Nothing cleanses the soul better than locking myself in my music room and spending 90 minutes learning a particularly gnarly Yes or Rush bassline.
The mando I got into as one band I was with wanted to do Country Roads, so I bought one and taught myself. From there the others, other than balalaika, are a fairly natural progression. I don't know why but a lot of bassists also play mando such as John Bonham, Jason Momoa, Derek Smalls...
I played guitar as a kid, had proper classical lessons and thats where J learned to read music. The git box is my least favourite and I only play enough to just to keep my hand in, perhaps an hour a week. I also have a Bass VI and playing guitar helps with that as well, masmits basically a guitar but tuned an octave down.
