Unfortunately my commuting by bike stops as my route is unlit and bad enough in daylight, so when the clocks change I will see you in March 2018.
However, I tend to manage the same miles per month by continuing my lunch rides and weekend rides.
I go out in all weathers and temperatures but if the roads are crazy icy i'll stay at home.

Mudguards on.

I'll put the geared bike away at the end of October and get the fixed out. I'll be on fixed till the spring and will continue in the winter as I do in the summer, if it rains or snows heavily I'll have to restrict my riding

What are people planning on doing cycling-wise over the winter?
Sitting on the bike and pedalling, just like summer but with more clothes and luggage that doesn't take on water so readily. And spiked tyres when it's icy. Or waiting until it thaws later in the day. And not being afraid to abandon leisure rides if it's no fun, but that's rarer than one might think.

Anyone planning any chilly sportives or audaxes?
Probably - there's all sorts of strange people cycling too ;)

My club rides will tail off in the winter, as they only do Sunday rides in the winter and I can't make Sundays.
Could you motivate enough of them into still doing other rides in winter?

I tend to up my mileage slightly in the winter, I prefer the relative peace and quiet on certain sections of routes I tend to use. Unless it's icy, I don't do ice, or snow. Unless I get a trike, then Ice and snow are actually a laugh.

Barnet,
I only stop on days when there is ice about, too dangerous for obvious reasons. Mudguards on and wrap up warm and carry on.

I despise snow, I will be avoiding going out in the white shoot full stop if we are unlucky enough to have any of the vile white crap this winter
Awwww, riding through fresh deep powder is lovely... but I suspect Sutton has the same problem as my bit of the A10 and motorists muck it up almost as fast as it hits the ground :cursing:

I'll carry on until December as I'm committed to the 50k challenge, but after a New Year's day ride, I'll probably take a couple of months break until spring. I cycled through last winter but if I'm honest, I did get ground down a bit with the mega short days, the faff of the cleaning drying and lubing regime after every ride, and the dressing up... putting on all the layers and then peeling it all off again, cold and sodden. It's so much more carefree in dry, reasonable weather.
