The gorgeous thing about a short commute is the possibility of riding something a bit impractical…
Get a fixie or a track bike and go nuts. I usually ride a city bike or hybrid to work. They are perfect for the job and comfortable as hell but once in a while the uncomfortable thing comes out of the garage and I really enjoy the ride.
It leaves me half crippled but is it ever fun!

The Whyte suggestion is a good one. I ride a Whyte Portabello that I got from Slane Cycles in West Belfast. They have been nothing but great to deal with and was bought via C2W.
Do you have somewhere to lock the bike up safely at your workplace? That would determine what type of bike I'd ride to work more than what type I'd prefer to ride.
