What bikes do you park next to?

None.

After a wrangle wanting bikes to go outside I took the initiative and reorganised the never-used lighting rig from an old exhibition stand that was laid around taking up 10' ^2 of space, stowed it all neatly under a stairwell and made indoor parking with no blockage of any passageways at all.

Then the only other regular cyclist left. So my bike has a room all of its very own. Which means plenty of room to park the trike whenever I use that.

I store my bike next to my other bike. That way they're both locked and in a secure place and I can always decide to run to work one day and cycle home on the spare if needed and that my space on the rack is guaranteed! (biggest pet peev is seeing bikes pop up where I normally lock mine)

My work bike cage is pretty full, although there are 5 abandoned bikes there, including an old Dutch bike (there 3 yrs) and a new-ish Spesh Tricross (there 9 mths). I attach my bike to both the bike stand AND the Dutch one, on the grounds that it's unlikely to be moved!

There's a reasonably similar group of bikes in our shed, which is getting rather full at the moment. Memorable ones are the two Kuota Khamas, there's a Big Commencial dual-suspension bike that is always caked in mud, and a silver allez with a massive amount of seat post showing.

After that there's a mixture of older road bikes, mainly Giant*, some hybrids including a new red Giant that turned up a fortnight ago, a few cube mountain bikes and this morning there was a Hewitt Cheviot tourer with bar-end shifters.

*The local LBS on the Cycle-2-work scheme is mainly a Giant/Cube dealer

The road bike leans against a set of storage units in my office, three feet from my desk. The nearest bike is my old hybrid Dawes 501, suspended from the concrete ceiling on a Lidl bike hoist, five metres away.

Only three of us out of about 25 cycle to work, we all take our bikes inside and leave them where we please. One has a MTB or a tourer depending on his mood, the other has an old Marin MTB that's possibly lighter than my road bike.

IIt depends, There can be anything from a 'supermarket special' (with the forks the wrong way round), to a OnOne Pompino, to a Bianchi
One guy even comes on a mid-90s Klein MTB

There's generally a few Boardmans, due to the (NHS) Cycle 2 Work scheme, & a quite nice Claud Butler (disc-braked) tourer!

Why can't you claim the Tri-Cross, if it's not been moved for so long??

If I was giving it much thought, which tbh I don't, I'd probably look for one that wasn't a cruddy mess. I don't park beside really expensive bikes because I am a bit clumsy and might knock them and I'd be mad as hell if someone scratched mine, but if you lean up next to an old, rusty trax you know the owner won't give a stuff about shoving your bike out of their way.
Mostly I just park my bike where it's convenient.

Someone's rusty MTB which has been locked to the same spot for the last 3 years taking up space that other people could use. At some point about a year ago someone put the chain back on and pumped up the tyres but the brakes still look lethally ineffective with frayed cables.

I tried to get work to remove it but apparently it does belong to someone who still works here (admittedly they did remove a few other abandoned bikes which I pointed out).

You work at the University though, I would expect abandoned bikes there from students who have come from abroad and just forgotten them/not had the room to take them. Its a shame really.

Wouldn't it be theft? Also it's got a D-lock on :ninja: , although one of the others is unlocked. Apparently the owner is 'going to get round to moving it' [the unlocked bike], although it's been there for over a year  .

Matthew - the bike cage is for staff. Students do have their own areas and there are abandoned bikes there; outside my 12.00pm class today is an old Universal road bike which has been there for 18 months chained up with a small cable lock. Not suggesting anything but ... :bicycle: .

When I get into work, it's quiet so I always get my preferred spot. The nearest bike is usually a hybrid or tatty mtb.

Though, over the summer there were several Boardmans, Bianchis and even a Ridley in the bike shed.

Only two riders in my work, the other guy rides maybe once a fortnight. I have to use railings around the office walkways, which are pretty sturdy, and in good view of the office windows.
