I need a bike that will
My present bike is a very old aluminium Orange e something with XTR shifters, it's done a good job, could have done with a rack and it's on its last legs. I've been thinking that a tourer with 26inch wheels might suit, what do you think?
- Not mind too much about doing thousands of miles strapped to a motorhome bike rack in all weather.
- Strong enough to do a LOT of very bumpy tracks, footpaths
- Be able to carry my 16 stone, 18stone when I have a rucksack full of shopping.
- Have racks that will carry a further 30lbs or so when doing the 'big shop' and a granny gear to even out the hills
- When not carrying a load, it needs to be fast and fun on the road; I don't like to hang about and hate spinning out on big descents.
- Because I have lost half a thumb and half of the first two fingers on my left hand I find the travel required to change gear, when the lever is integral with the brake lever, is too long and makes quick changes difficult. Bar end would be OK as are regular mountain bike levers.
