What can I cook tonight ?

I cooked chilli con carne tonight and had it with parsley rice. The recipes always tell you to use flat leaf parsley for any dish needing parsley, so I did a side by side comparison of flat leaf and moss curled parsley, and although the flat leaf is slightly more aromatic, the texture of the moss curled is better. Why the insistence on flat leaf? Is it because it's readily obtainable in Waitrose?

I personally prefer the curled variety. And the flat leaf version is too easily confused with coriander (until you have a sniff at it that is)...

I'm impressed Fnaar manages to smuggle cardamom pods past the little 'uns though.

Well, all the pods seem to end up on my plate somehow ;)
We used to make a really bland tuna based version when the kids were younger (basically rice, peas, tuna and egg, which on my plate then got added salad cream ) but I got fed up with that. Made the curry sauce version with haddock one evening and to my surprise even the kids liked it... so tuna version has gone forever ;)

Strictly speaking, a vegetarian will not eat anything from the animal kingdom that's been killed: mammal, bird, fish, etc., but will eat eggs and dairy food that you get without killing the animal. A vegan won't eat eggs or dairy either (bear in mind that Quorn is not OK for a vegan: it contains eggs. Don't know about honey...)

A pescetarian (that's what I am! think I spelt the word right) will not eat mammal or bird meat, but will eat fish and other seafood.

Regarding veggie recipes: why not try a couscous? .

we both like couscous a lot . being a meat eater i prefer the original Morrocan dish with Lamb. I first ate it in a student bar in Toolouse and kept going back for more. Loved the way the students drank coffee out of huge glass desert bowls

Funnily enough her indoors ate couscous for lunch yesterday (plastic supermarket boxed variety)

Really love chilli but we had already eat that earlier this week. I forgot to put the quorn mince in though doh...

It might have to be a curry tonight I think . I'm salivating so much that when I opened my mouth to yawn just now some saliva actually squirted out of my mouth

I'm currently devouring a bowl of homemade lentil & veggie soup for my lunch. Tonight is carnivorous time though, as it's chicken, chorizo, onions, tomatoes, garlic, paprika, tarragon, french beans - served on rice.

Don't forget to chop your ingredients with piece of slate - apparently that's what were all using now! ;)

be in that scruffy dresser won't they? ;)

Don't be daft, that's my scruffy living room dresser. Unless I'm in bed watching the telly on top of it, when it becomes my scruffy bedroom dresser. The joys of bedsit living...

My knives are all in the kitchenette area, either in the draining thingy, or the Ikea worktop chest of drawers, along with the corkscrew, miscellaneous implements, the cutlery, and the hoard of little soy sauce bottles out of sushi. (they are fish shaped, and one day I will do something creative with them).

Bread.

Just baked a loaf.

I haven't bought any bread for two months now. All bread is now baked at home.

*delicious*

My sisters gave me some vouchers towards a breadmaking course at Bettys (of the tea shop fame) and it's one of the best things I've done. I've hardly bought a loaf since and get to eat yummy bread now rather than whatever the supermarket has to offer:tongue:. And the smell is divine!

Just stumbled on this thread and haven't read the whole thing, but my youngest made us a real risotto the other night, with onion, frozen peas and parmesan. Sounded a bit boring to me, but it was really nice, and incredibly filling.
