Established middle class apparently.
Load of old cobblers. I'm not qualified in anything but have been lucky enough to have a technical job that pays reasonably well, albeit not as good as it was 10 years ago.
Wife works virtually full time, we own our own house barring the last £10Ks worth, have a nice lump in the bank and between us earn moderately well...but I consider myself working class.
In every other sense, I don't mix in 'middle class' circles, I live on a council estate, have basic education, own a modest car and have modest needs.
Basically we've lived a frugal sensible lifestyle ( something many people just don't do any more) on modest earnings if you average it out over my working life.. That lifestyle has enabled me to be financially secure....you don't have to be middle class to be financially secure, just sensible.

Spose you're right in a way. Middle class used to mean (to me anyway) professional, perhaps management, home owning, socially adept etc etc.
I'd consider myself middle class ONLY in a financial sense.
Ive no problem with it BTW, I don't give a damn about so called class...I know a lot of people in a 'superior' position in life compared to me..who simply live on credit, or in debt if you prefer. I prefer my way. I'm a worker, never desire management potential, just want to my own thing, quietly and sensibly...no fuss, no pretence.
