What did Charlie have for lunch?

A couple of years ago, my wifs had spent some time watching a sparrow's nest, the young hatching, fledging and growing up...

Then one lunchtime we were sitting in the garden having lunch when this fine specimen swooped down caught one of the fledglings and ate it in front of us!

Picture was pure luck as I had been downloading pictures from the camera so it was sat at hand

No, it's real, not a carving....
That's good because Wood Pigeons are more digestible than Rock Doves

They have adapted well to urban living but I believe that the experts say they have a much shorter life expectancy than their country cousins due to mange. Some of them do look pretty unhealthy but others are quite magnificently sleek, bushy and bright-eyed.

Sounds more like Stoke Newington than Buckinghamshire.

Our last cat, that flitted between us and next door but one, was torn to pieces in their fully enclosed back garden by what we assume was a fox. There were no dogs around and we've never encountered a badger or evidence of a sett nearby but something did a heck of a job on her.
I hate to say it, but a fox isn't strong enough, nor would it be inclined to tear a cat apart. My money is on a dog or dogs.

I aim high...
In which case, Rich, you would have liked the fox I saw in Switzerland once. Well, I think it was a fox, as all I glimpsed was a Basel brush
