After reading this thread yesterday, I thought I'd keep an eye out for nice things this morning but it would appear that my London commute is astoundingly dull. The only thing of any note was a small tree that appeared to be growing out of the roof gutter on a 4-storey building. Hopefully tomorrow's Sheffield-based commute will be better...

I hoped you waved...
Heh, ah yes, I waved and beat him in, although by the time I finish messing about changing he's already at his desk so hollow victory.

Actually in spirit of thread has been quite plesant last couple of days, balmy, I might even venture.

Saw a young cat run over by a car this morning. The driver left the scene and I stayed with it until it died (which was mercifully, quickly). I wrapped it in my towel and rang the council. Not a nice way to start the day...

It was a lovely ride home last night, though I didn't really see anything of note. It was nice that I only needed my lights to be seen, rather than to see where I was going. And this morning was mild enough for me not to wear my jacket .. just a long-sleeve wicking top.

Good idea for a thread!

I also saw a mandarin duck! On the River Ravensbourne in Ladywell, S.E. London. Trying to get off with a female mallard. Also a heron, grey wagtails, chiffchaffs, goldcrests, goldfinches, a big flock of redwings, great crested grebes nesting on the Rotherhithe docks, lots of other common birds, many singing, spring at last, yay.

That is one horny Mandarin duck, and a little sick in respect of nature trying to get off (have not heard that term in years) with all those birds, the orgy with a flock of redwings is a step too far!

I actually left work early yesterday (parent teacher evening) and had a cracking ride home as the roads were quiet, helped by the fact its 18 miles and downhill 90% of the time. Nature wise there was not a massive amount the usual squillion Rabbits, sheep, geese and "cockface" the evil Llama that relentlessly mocks me as I climb the steepest hill on the way too work, gave him the 'V' as I slowed to cruise by on my descent home!

I am going to miss commuting the next few weeks! bloody babies, keep the tales coming!

.. I want to keep it going long enough 'til the bluebells are out in the woods.

I will be back while they are still out... just been banned from this weekend by the good lady wife as she is due in 2-3 weeks and apparently a 1 hour commute back home is not acceptable if she goes into labour.. would argue, but her last labour was 45 minutes! and i have never done the journey home in less that 48 minutes!

There is a terrible staggered junction on my commute. Its on a 50mph road and is a known black spot. 11 deaths in 10 years! I had a crash there too so I hate the place, there is always car shrapnel strewn over the road. Well today I saw the signs to say that there is going to be 20 weeks of road improvements so a roundabut can be built. Great News. The councillor has been campaigning for this since 1997. Good work fella.

That is EXACTLY what I said! dry slap across the chops followed!

Mind you when I did the 18.4 miles in 48 minutes I was not exactly chomping at the bit to do anything other than sit in the bath, I struggled to focus on Call of Duty 5 for at least an hour after I got back too!

Last night, a few rabbits and a squirrel and then I got to chase another pheasant .. I was going down the quiet lane into my village; this particular section is just about one car wide, banked edges with hedges, downhill. It's a no-through road with few houses on it so I tend to pick up a bit of speed.

The pheasant was in the road, and 'cos it was hemmed in by the hedges, it couldn't easily run off to the side so it ran wildly down the road in front of me for a time, zig-zagging back and forth. While I scrubbed off a fair amount of speed and sat behind it, cackling manically. ;) Eventually, it remembered its wings and off it went.

This morning I heard - but didn't see a woodpecker. There was plenty of daffodils out which is always nice on a crisp bright spring morning. And I spotted the Greater Crested Groundsman on a golf course doing groundsman things. Which, that early in the morning, seems to consist mostly of having a sneaky bit of practice.
