I feel lucky then. 10 miles away from a city centre but still out in the country side. I saw some wild deer near a local village the other week. I hate big town and city centres. Country boy through and through.

I miss haystacks.Befor any one comments I don’t mean the wrestler

Layed hedges

Proper ditches. In my neck of most have become little more than depression in the road side verges.

Tractors that I can catch and pass.

Thieves in stocks.

The Village Fool.

Buxom wenches*.

And socialist ideals.

*I’m not sure I really know what this phrase means, but I’m talking rosy cheeked, happy fullsomeness.

I passed two together in a field yesterday, one holding a guitar the other a mic.

No, that was one of the smaller, less successful Folk Festivals...

There seems to be fewer hares around. It is a rare treat to see one now. There is no room for them or much else in the monoculture fields you get now.

I used to quite enjoy stubble burning week growing up in Devon.

Don't miss cuckoos. Not even a little bit.

When I was very small, in Devon, I could see people hand cutting corn and placing stooks. The stooks were not that interesting, but the steam tractor that belt-drove some piece of machinery nearby transfixed me.

True but birds are far less abundant.
Ive not seen a Yellow Hammer or a Linnet or many other small bird species for decades.
Lots as a kid.
Red Kite are abundant now which is nice

Come around this neck of the woods for yellowhammer. Occasionally I see linnets, but South Devon on the coast they're 10 a penny.
