I think he's large enough to create enough gravitational pull to prevent her getting away in the first place.

An ex. club mate of mine was on one of the cop programmes on TV a couple of weeks ago (not one of the regulars) - you can tell he's not been on the bike for a good while. His older brother (another ex. club mate) had mentioned, via a cycling colleague (small world you know) that he'd put on a bit of weight....

Awesome. And the cry goes up "The kids have no respect for the law these days!" Any wonder??!!

It may sound harsh, but a lass on my team has been banned from getting the bus to her beat. She now has to walk uphill for several miles to get there, and the sergeant tracks her on GPS to make sure she doesn't stop off at the nearest cafe. She's been told she can have a mountain bike as soon as she can get into the trousers and padded shorts.

That specimen in the OP would find himself with a similar dose of "tough love".........

Serious question - are policemen/firemen etc. not expected to stay in reasonable shape to meet the demands of the job? I'm not being cruel, just curious.

There was a case of a 20 stone fireman in Scotland, I think, who was sacked for being fat. I recall his callegues went on strike, don't know if he was reinstated though.

He was not reinstated, and as far as im aware there was no strike. He had been given time and advice on how to loose weight and get fit, which he choose to ignore.

Anyway cant speak for the police, but fire fighters are expected to have a reasonable level of fitness. However the entry requirements have dropped significantly over the years, I would expect the same has happened in the police force.

No matter what you put in place there will always be those that slip through the net (albeit a big hole)

Don't quote me on this but i think the RAF have an annual fitness test.

A set number of agility tests against the clock.

Fail and you are given the opportunity to practise then if you fail again .Out of the service.

All the forces do. Not sure if they are all the same, but I certainly remember doing mine some 20 odd years ago.

If you didnt pass it was off to the gym on night times and early morning for remedial PT until you did pass!
