Road test completed which led to the startling conclusion disc pads perform better when there's some friction material on them.

I did a couple of firm stops as a nod to bedding in, but I don't think that makes a lot of difference on a bicycle disc brake.

The muddy path with lots of lovely sticky grit thrown on to the disc probably did a better job of that.

Normal braking service has thus been restored.

Not that normal is very impressive in Magura terms.

The brakes have never been as sharp or had as much feel as I would like.

My other conclusion - reached long ago - is Shimano hydraulic disc brakes perform better than Magura.
