What does this cable extension set do?

I was bought this as part of a birthday present ten years ago and still don't really know what it's for - lots of little blue ferrule-type things which I presume can be used instead of an outer but I don't really know why I'd need them. My bike is blue though and any bling is a bonus so if they're harmless I'll stick them on.



I don't think my then girlfriend knew what it was for either, she was just clicking some random stuff on Wiggle.

I "think" the blue bits are meant to act as a flexible and decorative outer. You just thread the cable through them and when you run out resort to ordinary cable. Seem to recall they were a bit of a fad. Not sure how water tight they are.
