I'm not completely obsessed with reducing weight but a nice lightweight bike is a thing of beauty and the source of much pleasure so i do try where i can to reduce unnecessary weight.

I weighed my 653 Ribble forks and was staggered to find they were the heaviest forks I possess  728gms

Next come the chrome Colnago steel forks at 691gms

Next the plain chrome 531 forks only weigh 652gms
(less than both the above)

Next are the aluminium forks on the Massi at 475gms

Lastly I have some Bianchi carbon at a mere 364gms

So even if I fitted some carbon forks I'd only save 100gms

Once i sort the gears on my summer bike I'm going to strip and weigh the Massi and find out where all the weight is. It needs some attention to some rust bubbling before winter .

I think a lot of weight will be down to the rust bubbles.

Which version of the C50 do you have Dell?, its absolutely gorgeous. I did a quick search but couldn't work out which model you have from the rear view pic. Have you got a full side on picture ? How on earth can it weigh 8lbs less than mine ?
I don't think the frames vary that much - some people say 1.4kg and some say 1.2kg. I've just gone around buying the lightests pedals, seat, chain, wheels and so on that I could afford. I did draw the line at the Superleggera saddle, which weighs in at 116 gm, and settled for a Specialized at 160 gm, and my pedals come in at a hefty 278 gm, but, overall I'm just about there. It's just a pity I'm 2kg heavier than I was in 2005, 5kg heavier than I was in 1988 and 9kg heavier than I was in 1973.....

yes that is where I've gone all wrong you see. I buy a cheap component which I'm unhappy with so I buy another slightly less cheap component:sad:

Why oh why don't i just buy a brand new gorgeous Dura Ace whotsit in the first place ? then I wouldn't have a huge box full of carp I can't use.

I realised today that one of my bikes still had a RX100 brake calipers that I bought 12 years ago! Some things last a long time so it is definitely worth the initial investment.

I still want to see a full side view of that gorgeous frame though. its one of the best I've seen. There are quite a lot of minor variences between various C-50's it seems.

If I had that frame I think i might actually finally be satisfied that I had simply the best.

Buy cheep = buy twice (or three or four times). My Dad drummed that into me years ago - mind you, he was talking about boots at the time but the principle applies

be better if i could lose that half stone..

I had a nice black Holdsworth that was used in the Milk Race by one of the East European riders . Should have kept it really. I have a soft spot for the really old ones c 1950's/60's

that is magnificent .
Last year a chap in the Netherlands sold off a lot of Colnago frames. Every week I'd save an image and think about buying one . I'd only just started to ride again due to a back problem so it hardly seemed justified at the time. Now I wish I'd snapped one up.

Have to say i love to own light bikes, I have a scott scale 30mtb and a scott addict.

Cost me a bit but what the hell. Thing is if you dont have much to spend, its a dam sight cheaper to lose weight of your body!
