Duffle bags.
Not the poncy over engineered items that pose as such nowadays.
I mean the simple circular bags, closed at one end and provided with a draw string at the other end which had a dual function of not only closing the bag but also doubled as an 'over one shoulder and under the opposite arm carrying device'.
Perfect for keeping school books, homework, sarnies and the occasional grumble mag safe and secure as you cycled to school.

There are still some about, yes, but I really saw a blast from the past a couple of months ago when I was being driven up through Ayrshire.
Off in the distance we saw...... A pit head frame... You know, the things with the spoked wheels at the top!!
Need to find out where it was.
