Cockleshell Heroes could be tomorrow’s movie. It was going to be Whiskey Galore but now you’ve reminded me…..

Cockleshell Heroes is fantastic. Ferrer and Howard clashed badly during filming, and that really sets the tension between their characters.

And the best bit - when Ruddock is "ordered" to sort out the "lodger." The way Howard's character so laconically deals with the passing nosey copper is brilliant.

Matchbox with John Cena. Man of Mystery goes save the world from a Nuke with his old school chums - involves dodgy American people, rather than the stereotypical Iranian baddies (makes a change).

I enjoyed it, as it's just two hours of car, plane, helicopter, truck etc chases and lots and lots of stunts and explosions. No brain needed. Some comedy moments. There are scenes with John running and jumping - most likely done by a stunt man as John's back and knees are wrecked from his Wrestling days.

8/10.

The French Connection. One of those I'd heard a lot about and had to get round to watching eventually.

Good performance from Hackman and some tense, exciting action.

Was possibly expecting a bit more though. It's a film that won numerous Oscars and appears on "greatest of all time" lists. 95% of the film is people being followed or chased. Not really in the same league as the film that won Best Picture the following year (The Godfather)

"Lost in Translation" - watched it 30 years ago, and wondered then what all the fuss was about, and it didn't improve on a re-watch. Boring plot, racist stereotype based humour, plastic characters excepting the two leads, all in all a waste of 90 minutes (twice now!)

The Shining for the 5th time. It still send shivers down my spine.
Jack Nicholson is still my favourite actor but sadly too old to make any more films.

Have you ever read the Rob Ager analysis of it? He has got stuff on YouTube too about it. He does a very detailed analysis of the themes and visual symbolism. If even a fraction of it was deliberate by Kubrick then it really shows his utter genius.

I've not come across it, I'll take a look.

Clayface, at the flicks.
A very dark film adaption from the DC universe of the comic character.
Great story and great acting and great effects of what is in effect a revenge movie.
Highly enjoyable.
Its an 18 which surprised me bit, probably due to facial mutilation scenes but seen worse 15's.

I read the book on an overnight flight from the West coast of the states to East on virtually empty plane. Which was quite scary in the dark anyhow. I had to stop reading as I got so spooked.
This was 45 years ago and it’s still a vivid memory.
