Was discussing this with friends & family recently. Us cool kids didn't rate them - seemed to be enjoying themselves too much, and were from London. My 20-something offspring picked up on them, which allowed me to point them in the direction of the 'proper' bands of the era - The Specials, Selecta, Beat, etc.

Yes, I think they always were a bit of an accessible 'gateway' into 2 Tone and Ska and then get left behind. Then you forget what a amazing singles band they are/were.
My daughter said she'd have liked to have gone and I said I didn't think they'd register with her. She quoted Baggy Trousers, It must be love, Our House and House of Fun as iconic singles ... she's right of course.

We saw Die Zauberflotte in Vienna. How posh is that? Wonderfully sung and clever staging. The story is utter nonsense, and nothing hangs together or makes any sense so it's a pantomime more or less, but it is wonderful music and a lovely end to a short holiday

I remember openly sneering at a friend who predicted in the 80s that Madness would eventually be remembered in the same bracket as Squeeze.....and now they're opening for them.

I saw the Specials at Leeds Queens hall supporting the Clash, I thought they were terrible one of the worst bands I ever have seen.

Seen the Specials a good few times....out of curiosity how were they terrible ?
Worse band soundwise I've probably seen was Black Grape in Manchester many years ago,they were off there faces but a good time was had 😁
Reminds me of taking my daughter to see the Stone Roses at there comeback tour at Heaton Park...she's grown up being forced to listen to them ! "Dad they sound sh1t"....but you don't really go for the CD quality sound love.
It's more about the venue/concert/band and what they mean to you for me.
I've grown to absolutely hate big venue,football stadium concerts...Stone Roses were obviously the exception.

Terry the leader singer was drowned out by other members of the band charging to front of the stage shouting or ranting stuff that drowned him out.
