Neil Delamere. Think it was the 4th time I've seen him and, to be honest, his pre prepared material maybe wasn't the best he's produced, but his crowd work was astonishing. I sometimes wonder if he could ad lib a whole 90 minute set.

Anastasia. 10/10

Not someone I’d have chosen to see but my wife bought the tickets so I went along. She created a great atmosphere and a varied and enjoyable set. I was particularly impressed by her cover of Sweet Child o’ Mine, equally so by the band she has.

Spoiled only by some audience members. I don’t get why you’d pay good money to see an act live then spend the entire 90 minutes watching it via your 6” phone screen. Or why you’d want to facetime some pals and stream the gig to them. Twats.

Mike Wozniak - nice guy, clearly bright and sharp but I wasn't prepared for a 90 minute shaggy dog story. Was like watching an hour and a half of Ronnie Corbett in his chair.

Sam Campbell. Was a bit apprehensive about this one as the rational reviewers of Reddit hadn't been universally kind.

It was an ambitious and thoughtfully constructed show. I'd say about 80% of the material landed for me but the 20% that was a miss for me wasn't a miss for everyone. He integrated his support act into the show really well by dropping her into the 2nd half after she'd played a minor part in the first.

Most of my criticisms (size of screen - it was very 'multi media' - and sound mix) would probably have been answered by me being closer than the 30th row of a venue which I already think is too big for stand up.

Wishbone Ash last night in Galashiels, way better than I expected, great musicianship , the songs I knew were good, one blues rock song they did as a tribute to a late friend was excellent. Quite a bit of prog rock noodling, but they did it well!

Alison Moyet at The Empire in Liverpool, last night. Still has her whole 80's thing going on, plus an amazing singing voice with a great range. Unfortunately, we only knew 2 of her songs ('Don't Go' and 'Only You') and whilst some others (the synth pop type stuff) were good, it just sadly wasn't a great experience for us. If you know her later stuff and are in to it, it'd be a great tour to try and get a ticket for somewhere.

Sort of a gig last night, but a bit different. Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds, at the New Theatre in Oxford.

I have fond memories as a child of sitting in a darkened corner of our family sitting room, next to the record player, with headphones on listening to this on vinyl.

Last night’s performance was a fantastic live rendition, with the music and sound effects perfect in every detail, whisking me back to that sitting room and reminding me of elements I had forgotten.

Most of the vocals were great too. The narrator was a bit off for me, going for an excited Brian Blessed vibe rather than the calmer tones of Richard Burton but nonetheless it was great performance and well worth going to.

Saw that last year at the O2, and very blummen good it was. They even wheeled out old Jeff Wayne himself to pretend to conduct, who looks like hes been cryogenically frozen and only partly defrosted.

More wheels than sense
Friday night it was City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with conductor Thomas Dausgaard playing Brahms Piano Concerto No.1 and Sibelius's Symphony No.5

The Brahms was the best version I've heard with the Sibelius being a master class in dynamic range.

ETA re Sibelius's dynamic range - I'd never have guessed it could get so quiet with both 1st and 2nd violins all playing

I’ve just come out of the ABBA Voyage experience. Without giving anything away, just… WOW! It is awesome in the purest sense of the word. The music is the soundtrack of my youth and there is a relentless series of hit after hit, plus some lesser known ones. But the presentation is absolutely stunning.

I felt exactly the same when we went. I was blown away by the whole experience. It was if they were actually there and you could touch them. I'm not a great fan of ABBA but it was utterly amazing. Worth every penny.

Kirris Riviera and The Delta du Bruit from Bristol at a local pub - absolutely first class Blues session, every musician was top notch, truly excellent set. No tickets required, just rock up and if you enjoy the performance pay what you like into the hat! Honestly I've been to big name concerts in the past that haven't come close to the musicianship I enjoyed last night!
