I'm really glad that I declared my car SORN when my insurance company declined to reinsure my car when I told them about my GP telling me not to drive because of my memory issues (although I had already realised that I wasn't safe to drive and so had stopped). At least, I think I did do the declaration...😿

I think as regards SORN and insurance, as opposed to actually driving and insurance, the powers that be traditionally give a lot of leeway in terms of elapsed time before prosecution. In Ed's case some 4 or 5 years had elapsed before they got heavy with him.
Phew, that's a relief!

It is considered a dishonesty offence, so will show on an enhanced DBS check for all time. People dont appreciate how serious the consequences can be.

No it isn't a dishonesty offence.

And even if it were, that would not necessarily mean it will always appear on an enhanced check. There are plenty of dishonesty offences which are in the list of filterable offences - which won't appear on an enhanced check after 11 years unless you received a prison sentence for it.

I do not know the details - but converting it to electric would be understandable IF the engine was totally shot

i.e. had to be replaced and could not be fixed

which is possible

I'd check if I were you. I know absolutely 100% that I declared our campervan a couple of years ago but then got a demand for payment. I hadn't bothered keeping the confirmation e-mail and so couldn't dispute it. I now keep the e-mail and also take a screenshot of the confirmation, both for SORNs and tax renewals.

You should be able to check via the tax check website using the registration number.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Fractionally on topic: I saw a car with a DVLA wheel clamp on it while I was walking to the station a couple of days ago. I assumed it was because it wasn't taxed. I'll check and see if it's still there.
