Of course there is - ergo the sections for touring & camping, commuting, MTBing etc.

To say that it's easy to get the impression that this forum is all about road cycling is (IMHO) displaying a certain lack of observation.

In fact, i usually find that the majority of the posts (New Posts) tend to be in categories other than road cycling!!

I neither use the "New Posts" facility or read the Racing forum, but I have noticed a lot of comments in Beginers (and else where) suggesting the Road bike are the be all and end all of cycling, and that all new cyclist should be aspiring to join a club...

Equally I can think of at least two threads recently where people said it doesn't matter what the bike is, as long as you enjoy it. Of course, if someone is intending to cycle mainly on the road, then a road suitable bike is best. But I don't think I've seen anyone urged to join a club unless they already appear to have sporty aspirations.

I have two types of bike, hybrid that i use everyday for work and getting about, i also have a roadbike, which i like to use for longer rides at the weekend, but when i'm on either bike i still give a nod or a wave to fellow cyclists regardless of which type of bike they are riding, but you still get the elitist ones who dont acknowledge you because you dont have the correct shoes etc, i call them peanuts, for me cycling is all about freedom, enjoying the outdoors and meeting new people on CC rides, (and trying to lose a bit of weight)

I don't think anyone is going to ignore you on account of what you're wearing to be honest. If by elitist you mean those all done up in lycra and looking sporty then perhaps they're training. (or perhaps you're not viginant enough to note the *tiny lift of the fore finger to indicate acknowledgement) Not that I look sporty but if I'm on a training ride then I'm only concerned about what's in front of me. I couldn't care less about anything other than my saftey and how fast I'm going, waving to strangers isn't on the list. When I'm commuting though, it's a different matter I'm waving to everything.

But re the OP cycling is fun. For me it's a way to commute, train and time trial. It's an integral and important part of my life, health and wellbeing. But for me the BEST thing about cycling is when a car with a big beefy engine goes hammering past me with revs a plenty - I just pretend that it's my legs making the noice. BBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMM
