Something is clearly going wrong if they give licences to people like that.

To be honest, if not one member of the public is going to help you, then you might as well stay down on the ground and wait until the police/paramedics turn up.

At least then the police would be forced to take it seriously.

That's awful, hope you are OK.

Funny, I was out driving (at night) where 2 lanes merged into one.... looked in my mirror and sure enough there's a complete and utter kn*b speeding up trying to get just that one car in front.

Passed by me. Yep I could now see:

Black BMW. Huge long protrusion from driver's forehead.

Sorry for being car-rist, but even if I liked BMWs and even if I chose to get one, I'd certainly never get a black one for fear of being or becoming an utter kn*b who drives like a tw*t on crack (while on the mobile).

Just for the record: the last 3 incidents I've had on a bike have all involved black BMWs -coincidence? I mean what are the chances? Oops rant over (and with apologies to the single lone driver out there who drives a black BMW reasonably and with consideration, though I haven't seen you yet)

Generally, I find normal Bimmers are driven fine.

I think with stuff like the X5, it sticks out like a gauche sore thumb, so you remember incidents with said cars.

Is the X5 still build on the e39 5 series platform?

Moral to this story? ALWAYS try to get a reg number because no one else will. Thanks for listening, I'm off to nurse my bruised bottom.

Moral of story buy a cam

+1

I think BMW X5 drivers have a huge superiority complex over just about every other road user... How 'very' dare you question their driving standards

I was riding home (South London) a little while ago this afternoon when I was assaulted by an X5 driver. This is the second time it's happened to me this year. Back in the summer I had a driver of an X5 pull over, get out of his vehicle and push and kick me over (while I was stationary on my bike) because I said he was a bad driver after he deliberately (IMO) tried to run me into some parked cars. I found this event a bit pathetic and laughed it off, even though a friend said I should have reported him for assault.

This evening riding home from work I was at a crossroad junction, controlled by lights, signalling and moving to turn right. I was in the cycle advance junction box and moved to the middle to wait for oncoming traffic to pass so I could turn right. The car behind me pushed me from behind into the oncoming traffic. He then moved to undertake me pushing me and my bike and as he went past he opened his door onto me sending me flying. I didn't get the reg number but saw it was a black X5 (again!) but a different one to before as this one had blacked out windows. He then speed off leaving me in the middle of the road scrambling to get me and my bike out of the way of the traffic which started to move off again. No one stopped to ask if I was ok. Not one person. A pedestrian came over and I asked if they got his reg number, but they said they were "in too much of a rush to get involved".

I carried on home and passed a parked up police car 3 minutes later. I gave the cops all the details and they got onto HQ to look at cctv to pick up the X5, but nothing.

Moral to this story? ALWAYS try to get a reg number because no one else will. Thanks for listening, I'm off to nurse my bruised bottom.

This is awful!

You need to get a camera fella, this is totally the circumstances where they are vital.

This isn't the first time this guy will have done something like this and it won't be the last, he needs reporting before he seriously hurts someone.

I'm glad you're ok though. Whereabouts in South London was this, if you dont mind me asking?

I was also riding along in South London, on London Road, a few weeks back, filtering down the left hand side of a routine 1 mile tailback (Happens most nights due to lights) with cars moving at around sub 5mph when a Black X5 started veering left to close the space as I approached it.

Heads Up!

HEADS UP!
[No response]

By this point I'm about to enter into a unsafe space so I knock on his rear-most window. Not a bang, not violent, like a polite knock on a door. He jerks over to the right, I come alongside and his window comes down. As I attempt to launch into 'Thanks mate' he bellows. 'What the fcuk are you doing touching my car?'

I put my big man voice on and tell him that it was a knock on glass and he needed to calm down, and make sure he leaves room down his nearside as he's practically mounting the kerb. His return volley was 'You should have some f*****g lights on'

My Hope V1 had died. I hadn't realised as the road was so well lit. All I could offer was 'Sorry, I didn't realise, the batteries must have gone in the last 20 minutes. You were too close to the kerb though, but I can't expect you to see me coming if I'm not lit up'

"F**k! A f*****g cyclist, apologising... whatever next?"
'An X5 driver not thinking he owns the road?'

His scowl cracked and he started laughing. I cycled off.

So, if it was the same guy, he may be one of the worst drivers on the road, but... at least he has a sense of humour?.....

In all seriousness, hope you've recovered.

What is this mentality of people when you slightly tap their precious car? I think people need to get some perspective:

The safety of a fellow human being Vs. the vague hint that someone may have touched my car at some point

The dent caused by them knocking a cyclist off is gonna be way worse than a little tap.

God knows how they react when the postman 'touches' the letterbox on their front door to put a letter in then cos that's going to cause the same amount of damage aka. none!

Seriously, tapping a car, even wacking a car pretty hard isn't going to cause any damage whatsoever. This is nothing to do with fear of damage, it's the same mental attitude these people display when someone looks at their girlfriend in the pub, it's a misplaced sense of ownership and these people need to realign their priorities to what's important IMO, i.e. safety for themselves and others.

Cars can be replaced.
