Sorry to hear about this Buggi!

I once had a crossbow pointed at me. It was a school mate funnily enough. We'd gone to an fair in the early 90s when teens and they had the usual aiming games. One involved crossbows but said plonker pointed it at me and said "how does this work, then??"

Thank god the muppet didnt figure it out there and then!

I can't believe the irresponsibility of those of you actually suggesting the use of a crossbow as some form of defence when riding a bicycle! I'm shocked!

They are far too heavy and cumbersome, you need to use two hands to aim properly and reduce the effects of recoil, and crossbow bolts are far too heavily affected by winds, especially if you are moving at speed at the time. You'll never hit anything with one. Go with the shotgun ;)

I've gone for crossbow - mainly because of the terror it would cause the a-holes when you lifted it up and aimed.

I saw a picture on TV news of a bike with an RPG mounted on it - it was in Bhagdad - and have on occasions wished I owned and rode it.

I hope the police do go after them and if it's assault they get time.

Modern crossbows are very light and full of titanium this and carbon fibre that.

OMG.. Not being funny, but go for the 'sexual assault". Really....

Being a typical male lycra ba$tid (me) someone trying to run you off the road with 1500kg of car is no good, because, you were aggressive... oh "hand held in air"... is aggressive.... WTF.... I got no where with my report, but the bugger has an extra mark on his car with the coppers.

i had the same thing when a driver deliberately drove at me. they were all for going after him, until i said i hit the car (what the hell was i supposed to do?)

Grenade through the window?

i have my own form of grenade. you know those personal alarms that you pull the chord out of. one of those lobbed through their open window into the back. by the time they get it out they are deaf for two days. should give them plenty of quiet time to think about what they did.

am now the proud owner of a helmet cam

if this doesn't work then i've decided on a rocket launcher. Well, i mean, if i'm gonna end up in prison, i may as well make it worth my while

cameras have their pros and cons.

Pros
  • You have video footage if something happens
  • It's a visible deterrent
  • you can review what happened and see if you can improve your own cycling
  • uploading footage online and other cyclists will give you feedback
Cons
  • Post any footage on cycle chat and you will give criticised for not doing xyz
  • People think you actively look for trouble
  • if you upload footage online then you get a lot of people spamming you and writing stupid comments

you can remove all of those cons by simply deleting the footage once you arrive safely at your destination...works for me.
