i didn't want to derail the other thread about "coolest bikes" so, just to see if there is any real bike snobbery regarding brand names, if you were faced with a warehouse full of bikes of varied brands, shapes and sizes but the bikes were all unbranded meaning you have no way of identifying the bikes, how would you choose the best or coolest bike?
Remember you have no way of identifying the manufacturer of the bikes.

What about full suss MTBs? In standard spec some of the more exotic are unmistakable.

If thats what floats your boat then yeah sure, I was aiming more at the road bikes as they are far more similar in design , shape etc. I know groupsets vary and some bikes are aluminium and carbon etc, but the groupsets are fitted to various brands, weights can be very similar, frames can look very very similar, I am just wondering how you would choose the perfect bike without the branding and logos to colour your view.
I noticed in the other thread people are choosing top brand name bikes for the "looks and performance", goupsets, wheels etc i am wondering if you remove the identity of these bikes do they still have the same attraction.

I think k it would be down to creative frame shapes, or attention to detail like joints, welds and geometry. Virtually everything g is modular in road bike world, with everything inter changeable. In MTB world different designers come up with different solutions to various problems like suspension and pedal Bob for example. There's some "borrowing" going on, but suspension linkages and geometry change across the industry. Ibis produce pure sculpted art in my opinion.

I have to admit that is rather nice for an mtb.

But there you go choosing branded bikes, what if the bikes you have just chosen had all the identifying marks removed and you had no way of knowing which bike was which

Oops, my mistake. I didn't read the brief properly

I've removed it and put it in the correct thread

If anyone can tell me what brand this is I'd be gratetful. No serial number or logo anywhere on it but 'coolest' bike I own, I got it as a frame and forks with Camagnolo headset and seat stem, the rest is my own work.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
The best is whichever one best serves the purpose I want to use it for, the coolest is the one that's the been in the fridge.
