i didn't want to derail the other thread about "coolest bikes" so, just to see if there is any real bike snobbery regarding brand names, if you were faced with a warehouse full of bikes of varied brands, shapes and sizes but the bikes were all unbranded meaning you have no way of identifying the bikes, how would you choose the best or coolest bike?
Remember you have no way of identifying the manufacturer of the bikes.

Does not compute! <head implodes>

Actually if you could remove all the branding I might consider something that wasn't Cinelli - I hate advertising, and with bikes having their brand distracting you from the shape and colour scheme I just can't see past it.

Exactly, nail on the head!!!

So on the strength of the answers so far the brand name means very little as the feel / rideability of the bike is more important, does this confirm my thoughts regards bike snobbery?
Do some people buy bikes based on the name, looks and cost of the bike rather than the bike that fits and rides the best , a bit like some people who will only buy designer label trainers and clothes, mmmmmmmm, I wonder.

Of course they do. Not all would maybe like to admit it, but it's like buying a car. The cost thing is at the heart of almost every decision we ever make.

Very consciously so - always buy the Cinelli you like the look of.

The other factors are marketing fantasy - "rides best"? Horse poo. Carbon widget? Bull crap. Best fit..? Don't make me laugh.

Buy the prettiest.

First job throw all the Matt black ones out to narrow the field down a bit.

Ahem, nowt wrong with matt black, I have two carbon matt black jobbies.

No scatalogical references please. My diet is fine thanks.

I've chosen my bikes primarily on "look", I go for the pretty ones :-)
In a bike shop I notice the bike before I look for the make.

The coolest(ahem) would be a fillet brazed 853 (or 953:ohmy: steel frame with lots of chrome at the back, tight racey angles and a gloss black/matt black (design still to be imagined) paintjob..I can smell the expense from here...but it would be cool.
