One carries everything on the bike to sleep outdoors, the other sleeps overnight in Travelodges etc. 🤣

Only the lower orders sleep in anything less than a five star hotel.

Isn’t Bike packing an Americanism, like back packing where as in England we go hiking. They have free soloing and aid soloing in climbing whereas again in England we just go soloing.

I have used the former for multi day walking trips with overnights, such as walking the Pennine Way over a couple of weeks. The latter for day walks in the hills. If it is an Americanism it has been used in England at least 50 odd years.

Nobody went back packing when I started going out in to the hills in 1972 with the Leeds Mountaineering club.

But backpacking is a somewhst ambiguous term. For some it's tent, walking boots and overnights in wilderness. For others it's low cost international travel normally done by youngsters sticking to hostels in larger cities.

Yes I know the term can mean different things to people but as I said higher it’s another Americanism.

I went travelling in Australia in the 90a and met some of these backpackers and the only time they had the packs on their backs was when they walked from the bus to the hostel and back!
