What is the difference between bike packing and cycle touring?

I don't care what you call cycling a route over multiple days but the 'bike packing ' craze has led to the development of handy bags that enable lightweight touring without having to try and fit a rear rack to a bike that wasn't designed for it.

And the development of racks that fit bikes not designed for it ! I've found a rear rack that mounts to the QR axel of my CX bike, and secures to the seatpost. Rock solid and can be fitted in five minutes. Makes a change from p clips and wobbly racks.
