Ermm, no. Not at all.

Spandex (or elastane) is the general name for a class of synthetic stretchy materials, and lycra is one particular manufacturers name for it.

teflon and lycra are both trademarks of dupont. they do well at making them the generic term for all that sort of stuff don't they.

Well considering how dull their products are, they have achieved amazing product awareness among the general public. Although the old story about Teflon being the result of the space industry is an urban myth, it didn't do them any harm! :ohmy:

Exactly so. Spandex is the generic name, Lycra is a trademark. It's like asking what's the difference between vacuum cleaners and Hoovers.
