What is the point of having a bell?

It works ok and makes a proper ping but I can shout louder.

I get a bit self conscious using the bell. I use it regularly, but there's a big part of me feels silly doing it. It's just not manly.

You need to ditch this.....

Have you checked the end of the bell is tight?

There's nothing more off putting than a wobbly bell end.

Single tone pings aren't good for many with hearing problems. Brrring or ding dong are far more effective.

Mine's quite useful to warn people I'm silently* approaching them on the towpath. It is less aggressive than yelling at them.

*This is, of course, in relative terms since my bike creaks & squeaks summat allarmin

Must be deaf round your way, as I find it lessens the tension with walkers and horse riders, with frequent thank you's and well done's following my dinging of the bell
