There are lots of myths concerning biggish birds and their aggression or ability to damage people. I've handled a fair few swans and geese, which are about as big and aggressive as they come (short of ostriches), and never suffered worse than the odd bruise.

It might be true that a swan could break your arm, but it's unlikely - it would have to strike just right, and catch you in an awkward position.

I reckon that story about swans breaking peoples' arms is a load of propaganda spread by the monarchy to stop Eastern European migrants eating them. (© The Daily Wail )

There used to be a few peacocks that lived in Fishergate in York and spent their time wandering around the neighbourhood and jumping on people's kitchen roofs. They weren't white though.

There was one that lived in the Museum gardens, and it used to come and bask in the sun at King's Manor. I also saw it once, sitting at the bus stop outside. Dunno where it was planning to go though....

There is a peacock that lives in Fishponds in Bristol and just wanders around the area. The first time I saw him I was very suprised, the locals are used to him - apparently he wanders up to the school and looks in the windows disturbing the teaching
