Here's a thought. Laphroaig and Glenkinchie taste very different, so perhaps they shouldn't both be referred to as "whisky". Why not give them a call and suggest it to them?

Not that I expect you to recognize the point. Or even recognise it.
I am quite a fan of Laphroaig and Lagavulin and indeed most of the big peaty Islay malts. I do not think of them as 'whisky' but in terms of their distillery name. I suspect most fans of single malt do the same.

Which makes the spelling even less relevant.

If you like Islay, try Cadenhead's blended Islay malt. Cask strength, non-chill filtered and no caramel.

Thanks - sounds like a great tip. I do love the Islay malts.

In fact, until I discovered Eldorado rum they were my liquor of choice...

Have you tried Appleton Estate, Jamaican rum?

Fine stuff; much better than all that Scots whisky or Irish whiskey stuff (I note that my spellchecker tells me that "whisky" is wrong. American tosh, just like that encyclopaedia brittanica link ^_^).

I like a nice glass of wine nowadays. I used to like beer but I went off it when I broke my arm as the painkillers made everything taste strange and beer tasted 'burnt' to me. It still tastes funny to me now. I have recently grown into red wine, which I never used to drink as it gave me a headache and made me throw up when I was younger. That was after about half a glass, not a couple of bottles of cheap plonk.

I've not tried Appleton although I have heard nice things. Must put it on my list... Lately I have been taking nips from a bottle of no-longer-made 15 year old Pussers. Another nice drop.

I'm a big fan of Islay malts. Ardbeg Uigeadail, Laphroaig Quater cask, triple wood & their 18 year, Bowmore Tempest & their 15 year as well as Bruichladdich Port Charlotte are some of my favourites.
Highland whiskies such as Highland Park 12 &18 year plus Old Pulteney 12 & 17 year old don't last long in my whisky cabinet either.
I love a good bourbon whiskey also. Eagle Rare, George T Stagg, Noah's Mill, Kentucky Vintage, Makers Mark. I also love a JD.

How about a small wager then? If you can find a bottle of Glenlivet whiskey for sale today I'll buy it for you.
If you can't find one you buy me a bottle of Laphroig quarter cask whisky.

Deal?

Rushing blindly into the spelling pedantry minefield:whistle:.

Especially unwise if you don't intend to take care with the spelling of Laphroaig...

I've just found a bottle of akvavit lurking at the back of the cupboard. I'm going to take it to Knockengorroch festival this weekend.

I wonder what an absinthe and akvavit cocktail tastes like.

Back in a few minutes....
