My first guess was Brian Clough, butvI think he "only" made just under 300 appearances for Middlesbrough.

No, he was well before Cloughie and much less well known - other than maybe in Middlesbrough about 100 years ago. I can send you a link if you're interested in football history?

We were sent on a conference/awards event at work after winning best service team North East Region, and after imbibing a few refreshments at the awards dinner, I needed to visit the little boys room, so off I went, and asked the doorman where the loo was, he pointed me in the right direction, not long after getting back, we were to be given an inspirational talk by a famous athlete, when I thought to myself why has the bouncer got up to speak, turns out the doorman was no other than Kris Akabusi

I did similar when I visited my brother in London. Parked the motorbike outside the Royal order of Butchers as usual and went to go in but a chap in a funny get up asked me to park around the corner. Being very polite I just said okay and did it. Then got inside and asked my brother what was the gig with the doorman. He didn't use to have one. After laughing for a while he explained it was the Lord Mayor of London and I cannot recall who the important person was turning up, but I had nicked their limousine drop off. I was later informed that the Mayor thought it was very funny.

2 Was in a cafe on the Norfolk Broads, when Rod Hull walked in, had a look round to see if the owners were looking, grabbed a handful of sugar sachets, and walked off.
Handful or beakful?

I've also been close enough to the Queen to have punched her (I didn't though, strangely enough).

It was Edinburgh, at the opening of the Scottish Parliament building. She walked down our side of the Royal Mile (security gave us prior warning, so it was obviously planned. I wonder if they looked at us all standing there and thought

"Nah, they look harmless enough" 😆).

I had the same with Charles a few years ago; he stood right next to me at Carlisle Station whilst getting off the Royal Train.
I was there mainly to see 'Duchess Of Sutherland' hauling the train. A wonderful old steam loco.
