A carrera TDF is my commuter now after over a year on a carrera subway 1.

Kepping the subway in reserve as a back up bike and for winter maybe a better ride?

Good Morning,

I normally ride a middle aged Marin Alpine Trail fitted with Continental Road tyres. Its still a great ride. When I am in more of a hurry, or going shopping I use a Wisper 905se City Sport Electric Hybrid - it has pleanty of grunt, and a range of about 60 miles!

My bikes are fitted with Rechargeable Halogen lights, which have a good spread, and a wide arc of illumination.

I am still amazed that there are riders out there pedalling bikes with no lights, on unlit country roads, and not bothering with either a helmet or any sort of reflective clothing.... Accidents waiting for a place to happen...

Oops! Looks like I almost got flamed! Obviously as a new member to the forum, I am not aware of previous threads and postings... I am not advocating or suggesting that anyone should ride wearing a helmet - that is pure choice, and I dont always wear one. I merely mentioned it as I had hoped to summarise the total lack of self preservation demonstrated by the rider - in the dark, unlit, and unprotected.

Does that clarify things?

So, maybe I can start again....

I have a Marin MTB, which I use for my everyday commute...

Oh, I'm not getting into the debate, but it does irritate me when "no helmet" is used to try to justify some sort of description of someone's bad behaviour. Surely the no lights is all that is required to show that?

<OT> And to be fair to CyclePilot, he didn't emphasise the lack of helmet above all else. We should perhaps be a little more welcoming to new posters and not start trying to enforce our views (whatever they are) on them... well, not yet anyway... </OT>

My main commuter at the moment is my Brompton. This is a new development, but it makes a lot of sense when my commute is Bike-Ferry-Bike, and the partially-folded Brompton takes up virtually no space on the ferry (it can fit in little gaps).

I will however be switching over to my icebike for the winter (basic steel MTB frame with studded tyres, simple V-brakes, fenders with big clearances (for snow), singlespeed front ring and 7-speed rear derailleur - I would use a hub gear but I'm adapting what I've got).

I use a Brompton whenever I can work a bit of cycling into any journey when away from the main base and a triX when going from home to main office. Currently can't remember what the triX looks like
