According to the Aussies there's another meaning to 'rooting' which would make that phrase take on an entirely different meaning:ohmy:

19 years and only one row - and that was someone elses fault.

We are one of those sickening couples who have merged into a single entity called Jimandlouise.

30+ years, we have our moments (just occasionally) but really we just enjoy each other's company.

Me too!!!! We met when I was 17 and we got married when I was 19 (I still remember people saying that we wouldn't last a year  ) 31 years after, 3 children, etc..... she can still put up with me :becool:. Lots of people wonder how we can spend so much time together and don't get bored of each other lol.... I work from home so she is always just two floors down

We have been asked several times what is the secret and we never know what to say lol I could not say it is just one thing but lots of little things..... respect for each other, understanding, etc, etc, etc..... but if there was one thing that we have both made an effort to keep is that thing we had when we were going steady  the romance has never been left out and probably that is what many marriages forget.

There's a great quote about this which I can't remember exactly but it's along the lines of "The trouble with looking for boyfriends is that the best ones already have boyfriends of their own."

Oh god, don't let's get onto that particular spanner in the works....

I'm alright, not really moaning, well, only a bit. If he's out there, he's out there.

If this has been done before.. sorry  I was just wondering what other people's relationships are generally like (with your other half). Mine is coming up to a year long, and somedays is absolutely amazing, warm and fun. Other days (much less often!) we just irritate each other, unwittingly- I think!. Some days we're together but pretty much silent as we seem to have nothing to say, then others we talk about everything and nothing non-stop for hours. Is that what it's generally like, or are other people's on a more even keel, or is it to do with the length of time of the relationship?
This sounds fairly familiar. Thing is though every time she comes back home after a week or two away, which is quite often due to work, no matter in what mood we parted we're always very happy to be back together again.

Together for 24, married for 22. Very happy with my lot but like all relationships, you need to know that she is always right for it to work - oh and I don't have control of the TV remote

Pretty good, mostly. We each let the other be themselves, which is essential. On the other hand, I never thought I'd find anyone better at dithering than me, and I never thought I'd be the financially responsible one in a relationship, lord help us.;)

We married within 6 months of meeting and are still together 22 years later.
Kids came along 14 years ago so have had two phases to the marriage.
We disagree on most big things: religion, politics, cycling. But despite this we have never had an argument (yes never actually argued in 22 years).
I think it works by respecting each others view and treating each other as equals and agreeing to disagree sometimes.
We get on really well and probably are both quite level people, neither get in a strop. Home life is good with wife and two daughters even though my world had crashed down in many other ways over recent months.
All in all - great!

It is interesting to read that many long lasting marriages have common elements that make them work. Agreeing to disagree is a wonderful option to prevent an argument
