I was asleep there, having a dream where I was in hospital (ironically enough), when all of a sudden, I could barely breath.
In the dream, I fought it and it went away, but quickly came back. I was becoming more lucid and tried to move myself, but because I was still asleep, I couldn't

It felt like the stuffed nose from hell, only it was my mouth too.

At this point, I woke up and realised, it WASN'T a dream, I really could barely breath and what's more, my heart was racing at something fantastic like 3 beats per second.
I just lay there listening to it for a moment, wondering if I was about to have a heart attack or something, when all of a sudden, it stopped and went back to normal again as I started to breath normally again.

I was lying on my left side.

Possibly sleep apnoea or similar?
I am aware I do snore, but have never knowing had any problems with it before.
My father does suffer from Atrial Fibrillation, which is what I initially thought it might be, due to the heartrate, but I am unsure it would explain the breathing issue.

I'll have to make a Doctor's appointment for sure anyway!

When asleep Sometimes my airway gets blocked if I’m lying badly and dry mouth. Or sometimes it’s reflux when sick comes up so I can’t breath . I can’t breathe for a few seconds. My body goes into panic mode and everything goes nuts for a bit until it calms down.

It’s happened a dozen or so times. I’ve learnt to sit up, the breathing comes back very quickly, to recognise it and to calm down quickly. Rather than trying to breath in, I do a big hard breath out which clears everything then the breathing is easier. This seems contrary at the time but it helps if you have the presence of mind to do it.

Thanks.

I do have reflux too.

I wonder if it has been happening before, but I've been too deep in sleep to know/remember? 🤔

Reflux is horrible. I've a bit of a dicky stomach valve so was suffering appallingly but im now permanently on Omeprazole. Downside is that is linked to brittle bones and various types of dementia if used long term, so I also have to take calcium and have 6 monthly blood tests.

As for the dementia ill just have to...where am I?

I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea a few years back, but a change of arrangements with my pillows seems to have cured it so I question the diagnosis.
