Picked up Spanish on the CDS in the early 80's when escaping the UK as a provincial, comprehensive educated oik. Best thing that ever happened to me, made me realise that I wasn't completely stupid. I speak it to the women at work when I am a giddy mood, or bored. Eldest lad (22) moved to Tarragona last week, he can't speak a word, but I see me in him, it'll all work out well in the end & he'll be fluent 6 months from now.

My French is pretty good, though you'd kind of expect that after nearly 10 years living here (not as good as I'd like it to be though) The local accent/dialect has me flummoxed but I'm not alone in that.

Used to be OK in Spanish too but that was near on 30 years ago. It comes back to me on random occasions.

I wish I could speak more French. Whatever I learn, it probably won't be enough. But at least I can make an effort, and hopefully the locals will be tolerant.

As for other languages, well I fluently speak C/C++, Java, bash and VBA - does that count?
You ought to hear me 'Java-talking', man, it's something to behold, and will send you to sleep in no time...

GCSEs in German and Latin. Found i can get by in German after spending a fortnight a couple of years ago staying with a German couple who didn't speak any English. A mixture of google and beer helps.
Never learned French at school but have been there on hols lots so can read and (sort of) understand but can't speak it.
Took Ndebele classes when i lived in Zimbabwe - couldn't speak it now though

English and Maritime English
I also can just about read a menu and order food and drink in German, French, Italian and Greek.

Which considering I spent 20 years of my life travelling the world is fairly shocking, but the maritime world speaks English throughout
