Hi all, Can anybody advise the best maps to use with the Garmin 705.
At the moment i am looking at the mtb package but i do not know if the topo mapping will be any use on the road as i will be putting it on both bikes.
Or would the road package be more suitable for the both bikes.B)

The Topo maps for Garmin are fun.

Firstly, get them on Mapsource and put an 'Avoid' on all the roads you CAN'T go on.
Then put an 'Avoid' on all the roads you DON'T WANT to go on.

Roads you DON'T WANT to go on might include those too busy with traffic or too steep to cycle up ( or down ).

I 'Avoid' roads with a twin chevron on OS.

Then, search for roads on Topo that simply DON'T exist, and put an 'Avoid' on these.
I've found three.

With M-ways etc 'Avoided', you set the unit to include Highways.

Mine works a treat.

PS. I don't upload the whole Topo GB onto the unit.
If I need to set an 'Avoid', I do it on Mapsource and upload the maps to the unit.

I have 60 maps loaded. 160 mBte.
This takes about 5 minutes.
I'm not going to wait 30 minutes for the entire GB to reload for the sake of one added 'Avoid'.

Have fun!

You might want the topo package for MTBing, but save some money if buying both and get open source mapping for the road. Either way, you can put them on 2 different microSD cards and swap as required.
