All are great ideas lol, but anything that i can buy that doesnt invole the wife realising lol.

OK - a cheap/free idea: put your feet, with socks on, inside a plastic bag, before putting them into the shoes.

a) it'll keep them warmer and b) it'll keep them dry.

I do the same with my hands; I've got latex gloves that'll go as a base glove, before the other glove(s) go on top, if it's very cold.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
cling film/sarnie bags over your socks before you put your shoes one, acts as a barrier and certainly keeps the heat in.Wiggo apparently uses cling film, i carry a couple of unused sarnie bags , it can make your feet a bit sweaty but if your feeling the cold it might be the extra layer you need.

Ok, on the way to work yesterday i wrapped my feet in carrier bags and they held up a little better, but not enough so i bought some Endura Thermolite socks and they were a lot better, so all the reviews and hype ive seen regarding Deffet socks are rubbish.

I'm glad that it looks like you've found a solution to your problems.
Since everything else seems to have failed (even the plastic bag idea, which actually makes my feet overheat!) I was beginning to wonder if this could be a problem with your blood circulation.
Might be worth keeping this in mind and getting it checked out if the new socks don't solve things.

I'd try and get to a stockist and try them first Matt, I didn't think they were narrow at all compared to my other cycling shoes
Yes, worth trying them on.
My trip into town to have another look at them has left me in a bit of a quandary; they weren't quite as narrow as I'd remembered.
I'm going to think it over but, on balance, I'm probaby going to go for it.
