What on earth is this butterfly/moth thingy

Saw this on a door frame today. I assume its wings are damaged or 'motheaten' (see what I did there ).
Anyone know what it is ??

Ahhh I can see it/them now you say it. Cant see the antenna on the lower one which is my excuse.

You, sir, are correct. I just opened my book (called What Is This) and it was the first one. Apparently its rarely seen in northern uk.

We had a Hawk caterpillar in the front garden a couple of years ago- It was like my freakin thumb.

They are lovely big moths, get them in the garden from time to time.
