We use our chimera quite regularly through the summer months, we burn offcuts of wood bought from a local supplier, £25 for a huge half ton builders bag full, it lasts all summer and burns clean.

My local joinery gives away bags of offcuts. Or skip diving can work well, especialy if there's pallets in there. MDF and chipboard don't burn well, as there's a lot of glue mixed in with the wood fibres

You can buy those logs from pound shops and they work quite well. Don't give off much in the way of fumes although you won't get much heat from them unless you put 2 or 3 logs in at the same time.

Much of the attraction is the visual effect rather than the heat

Convince the local police you can do them a favour and can burn the cannabis they've just confiscated from a house near you for them. Get big blocks of the dried stuff and do as you say - burn it with photografic evidence provided. But don't waste it; get a few friends around to make sure it's burning properly by leaning over it to see it going up in flames. Niiiiiice.
