What Should This Lady Do?

She will probably 'need' the kitchen as much as he 'needs' the bike. So they should both just make do.

When it was a choice between a new bike and a new kitchen this was my philosophy and justification:

If i get bored looking at my drab kitchen, I can always go out on my bike to get away from it.

so, turning that around, i would say to her, "when you get fed up of your kitchen, cop a feel of your man's new tight ass"

Excellent advice! Do you think there is a job opportunity for ahem, 'freelance' cyclists to stand around outside kitchen showrooms on the off chance...

She should tell him that its not the bike which is not fast enough but him and that two things would contribute greater than a new bike , diet and training.
The new kitchen will assist in the diet then while he is out doing the extra training she can s*** the kitchen fitter and with the extra discount invariably acheived he can buy some go faster stripes for the bike. win win

Funnily enough this very situation has cropped with one of our members on CC. He finally gave in on the kitchen, including granite worktops, but managed to subsequently negotiate a deal where he got a new Ti Van Nick as recompense.

New kitchen? Pah! that's nothing. My wife wants a new house.

she should bang on about marginal returns. a £1200 bike is not going to be spectacularly better than a £800 bike. and a £1200 kitchen is not going to be great unless it's for a shoebox.

i hate to rule in favour of the wife, but the answer is probably spend the money on new doors/worktop (fitting them yourself) to save cash, and telling him that a new bike won't make a huge difference.

save up the man points for when a real upgrade is possible…

Catching up on the multitudinous sections of the weekend paper - as you do - I noticed this in the money bit:

Bike question.

Any useful information that you might write?

I got knocked off my bike August 2008 and finally got £3000 compensation April of this year. I'd spent months considering new bikes.........................my wife bought a new kitchen!!! My suggestion she should consider similar action to raise funds for the kitchen didn't go down well.
