We are having a make-over..............new fire-place, carpets and furniture etc. We are getting rid of the full length stone fire-place which looked good when built in the 80s.........this will give space for a larger TV.
The room is quite large e.g. I tend to sit on the settee......approx. 5 metres from the TV.
Our present TV is good and is 42"
We are thinking 50/55" but its one of those things...........
what if we buy the 55" and find it's too big:eek:
What if we buy the 50" and later think we really should have gone bigger :eek:
Anyone gone bigger ?? how big ? any opinions ?

55".

If one or more family member are worried about blending-inability then you can just spend more time researching the aesthetics/mounts etc. I think it's possible to be choosy and take that into account to an extent.

I'm currently sitting about 4m from the TV watching the snooker.

Used to have a 42" wall mounted and that felt OK. Upgraded it to 55" wall mounted and it looks great at this distance. No feeling at all that it's too big to watch

Optimal screen size is half the distance you are from screen. I am 64 inches and have a 32 inch telly and it works. My dad is 100 inches and has a 50 inch telly. And it works.

There is some science involved but I can't bleedin find it

Stick a cardboard template on the wall and see what you think

I watch 50" from around 8ft

It should be at eye level. Most fireplaces are too high unless you sit on a high up chair to watch!
