What soundbar?

Apparently I'm doing up the front room and we're buying some new furniture and stuff. So as part of this I thought a soundbar wouldn't get noticed in the great scale of things. Any recommendations, no more than 300 and preferably less?

I bought a Panasonic tv as it has the best sound without the need of a sound bar. Probably not a good as can be but sounds fine to me when watching Man v Food.

I bought a Samsung one, with wireless subwoofer for £179.99, and its great - really add;s to watching a decent film

We got a Sony for our new Sony TV. I am pleased with it. Tried just the TV sound (bar switched off) and it was far superior.
But as I (and most others) have only had the one its difficult to say which is best.

Can't recommend a soundbar, because I went for a 5 speaker plus sub woofer system. But for watching films or listening to music, the subwoofer is IMHO brilliant. Why not go to somewhere like Richer Sounds and have a listen to how they sound?

We just bought a 55" Samsung telly and have so far found no need for a soundbar. Lacks a little 'punch' for films, but perfectly OK for normal telly

Hang on! Here at Medieval Chez HC where there isn’t even a telly, I’m presuming you mean ‘Sand-Bar’.

Which I presume is a raised area of sand on a cabinet/bar counter used for sensually raking in positive Feng Shui patterns. Just indoors as apposed to an outside Japanese garden. Great idea. Trendy.

The Hang Drum Project is the perfect music to suit. Keep us updated.

He has big shoes (and belt) to fill but I agree.

Agree with @User259 , get one that is designed to work with your telly. Even so, we got one with our LG in the kitchen and it's been loads of trouble. It is supposed to have wireless Bluetooth connection to the telly but that kept failing so had to install an optical wired feed which doesn't look as swish

Samsung in the lounge works fine though but that is wired connection, plastered into the wall

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I have a Sony soundbar as well. To be honest we don't use it much with the TV, bu t i do plug my tablet into it and listen to music through it.

I just bought an Orbitsound A60 soundbar and subwoofer package. List price is £399 but dropped that to within your range when I bought it with other goods in CurrysPCWorld.

I spent ages trying out various Samsung, LG , Panasonic, Bose and Sonos equivalents, and the Orbitsound was IMHO the best even against much costlier options. I like the fact that it's made of wood (and British!) rather than plastic/metal and so not only is the sound much 'warmer' but there's no 'rattle' at high volumes.

With Dolby Atmos enabled output, the 'surround-sound' is terrific, particularly if you put bar in front of you and the sub behind where you're sitting!

When I looked into soundbars a few years ago the general consensus was that they were better than the TV, but nowhere near as good as a half decent hi-fi.

I play my TV through the hi-fi and it works very well. Worth thinking about if you have a hi-fi in the same room.

We've got a LG surround sound system which is about 10 years old but sounds great.

The annoying thing is that with our new LG 4K telly, the syncing is out between sound and visual. The surround sound will play via the satellite box but not the bloody digital TV. I dunno what's up with it. It's the syncing thing which I'm trying to fix.
