Crackle

I think I'm going to have to go and listen to a few then.

I could do hi fi option but I'd rather not, Bluetooth and a wireless speaker/subwoofer is so much neater and I'm middling in my needs, more easily pleased rather than.....I think the higher frequencies are slightly better with the display off.,.. type of person

We've got a LG surround sound system which is about 10 years old but sounds great.

The annoying thing is that with our new LG 4K telly, the syncing is out between sound and visual. The surround sound will play via the satellite box but not the bloody digital TV. I dunno what's up with it. It's the syncing thing which I'm trying to fix.

An optical cable connection should sync it i would think if the surround system has one.

I have an ageing Yamaha YSP-800 (contemporary review here - https://www.techradar.com/reviews/a...i-and-av-speakers/yamaha-ysp-800-96685/review)

It is very listenable when watching the TV or playing games (the kid, obviously ... ) but it sounds limited for music - it's ok for background though, and I quite often listen to Radio five on it. That said mine is from the early days of sound bars - it doesn't accept an HDMI cable - just sound, so you have to adjust the timing manually, for example. I'm sure things have moved on.

I'd recommend going to Richer Sounds and listening to some in their demo room - give them a call first and they will set it up for you.

In that case, you definitely should NOT need to spend more than £100.

I am 'slightly more fussy than middling' and I am happy with the Samsung soundbar and small sub-woofer that I bought for £99 3 years ago. (The model I bought is no longer being advertised but I'm sure that something equivalent will be available at a similar price.)

I actually own a very powerful 5.0** surround sound system but I can't get away with turning it up and my TV room is fairly small anyway so I prefer the smaller system. I use the amp and front speakers from the surround sound system for my attic music room but only use it during the day when I am less likely to annoy neighbours.

** The front speakers are big enough to supply enough bass, so no sub-woofer

Have you placed the microphone at your seating position so the souncbar can work out the timings / delays it needs for each speaker it has? You can often also sort sync issues between the picture ans sound via the settings in the digital box that decodes the original signal.

I've tried tinkering with delays without much success, but thanks for the suggestion anyhow...

I recently bought a Philips HTL2193B over here in Oz for just under $300. I would imagine it's available in the UK. To my ears it has pretty good sound , all manner of inputs including optical and Bluetooth and even has a surprisingly decent built-in FM tuner which was one of the selling points for me.

I bought a Panasonic tv as it has the best sound without the need of a sound bar. Probably not a good as can be but sounds fine to me when watching Man v Food.

We've got a Panasonic, if you watch films or big budget TV series get a sound bar, big difference. If you only watch drivel you might as well throw yourself under a bus.
