I've noticed a few more Peugeots than normal :bravo:
I assume most (if not all) are cheap frames (carbolite etc)...which i assume is like CroMo, a but that is an assumption
Personally, i wouldnt buy one any more than i'd buy a 16-23 framed Raleigh.

I think for a lot of people, a racing / road bike is too much of a leap in their minds. If you're on a 'normal' MTB / hybrid etc, you blend in. If you ride a racer / roadbike, you stick out. Some (i sometimes think a lot of) people dont want to stick out.

Nope...feel free...I was just pointing out a cheap bargin.

Good point gbb. I'm looking to do up and sell bikes here and there for the experience, fun and little bit of cash....looks like mtb's is the way forward for cash.

just keep ebaying for stuff like "racer" ..."steel frame" "old bike" etc etc etc.
Oh...the old frames often need 24mm seatposts.....which are IMPOSSIBLE to get.

I've said it many times to different folk, if you want the occasional cheap 80s / 90s Raleigh 'racer'...take a look at Friday Ads.
www.friday-ad.co.uk ....i think.
Local rag that is national (if that makes sense) . View it online, select your locality and every week or 3 something turns up.
The Peterborough edition currently has a Raleigh racer, 12 speed, excellent condition for £30. I keep meaning to ring him for some more details. Who knows, it may be a 531 or 501 ?

Always worth a look in your area.
Too small huh? Maybe this would be nearer the mark (tho' it's way out west)...
it is way out west! but its perfect for a single speed surely?

Watching it now though.

I really don't get it.

It's not new. 9 years ago, Tom and I went to the University abandoned bike auction (stuff left locked up on campus for months after the end of term) to see if there would be anything worthwhile. There were indeed lots of full sus BSO's mostly with rusted solid chains, and disconnected brakes. Kids (ok, 18 year olds, kids to me) were bidding 50, 60 quid for these - especially the red ones (faster, I suppose). Despite really obvious (to us) defects like the aforesaid rusted drivechains, missing brakes, flat tyres and basic poor quality. However, among the pile, Tom spotted something that would fit me (I already had a bike, hadn't planned to buy anything, it was before I understood n+1) and talked me into having a bid for it. I paid £15.

For a Dawes Galaxy.

But it had drop bars, white bar tape and a metallic lilac paint job, so it was deeply uncool.

It's about to enter it's second incarnation for me after a respray, and I'm thinking we may go off and tour Europe together one day.
