My shift has changed to 7am - 4pm. I set the alarm for 4:50am and aim to leave the house at 5:30am. Get to work about 6:20, 13 miles in the dark. Shower and change and at my desk just before 7am.

Do I leave too much time, can I have a lie in?

Hi Levad! My shift starts at the same time as yours, and I get up at 5:00 am, and leave about 5:50 am, as my commute is only 5 miles one way. It's also in the dark, most of the year. IMHO, you are NOT leaving too much time. You have to allow for breakdowns. Repairing a tyre in the dark, while holding a torch in your mouth has never been a quick task for me, especially when I cut my finger on the tiny piece of glass that was sticking through the inside of the tyre! lol

I set the alarm for 0500 but am usually awake before that, bathroom, mug of tea and either bowl of noodles or poridge and out of the house by 0540. depending on which route I take it's 50-55 mins on the short route and 65-70 mins on the longer route. Office starting time is 0900 but I like to get in early and have everything ready for when the 'troops' arrive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get up at 6.30 every day. Iusually don't start work till 10, so wil relax in the morning and get on the bike at 8ish for a 25mile training ride, work is only 3 miles away. arrive at work around 9.20, wash & change then at my desk by 9.45.

i do occasionally start work at 9am , so i leave at 7am, but still get up at 6.30

Up at 5:55, out of the house within five minutes, in work by 6:30. Shower and a chance to relax at work before starting at 7.

Alarm at 4.50am - up at 5 and out by 5.45 in summer, as late as 6.30 in winter.

Anyone else have problems staying awake past 9.00pm?

9:30pm seems to be the time for me! Years of getting up at 5:30am and hitting the gym at 6am. Now I have a 3 year old who gets up 5:30 - 6:00am so I always try and be alert enough to deal with him without being grumpy  ( he has 38 years on me!)

I get up circa 5:30 but don't leave until 7.00. I take a leisurely 25 mins to get to work (only five miles).

When my son was young, he was wide awake by about 5 every day. Mrs B and I took turns at weekends to be the one who had a proper lie in while the other got up with him and played with toy cars!

5  That is a little too early!

I like the idea of taking turns at the lie in, unfortunatley I take my weekend on Wed + Thurs when the current Mrs Sliverbow goes to Uni so there are no actual weekends. Still 5:30 is much more comfortable than 5:smile:

Up at 5am, out the door at 6:10am - I don't like rushing in the morning at all.

Train is at 6:30am, off that at 7:05 ish, then ride the rest of the way to work to arrive between 7:40 and 7:50.

I feel terrible after reading all these. I must be the worst person in the world in the mornings.

My alarm usually goes off at 6am, which is set for the radio (nice and loud to start with). At 6.20 the buzzer goes of which is when I get out of bed.
A cup of coffee and bowl of museli/porridge whilst watching the news and weather.
Wait for one of my housemates to finish in the bathroom, at 7am I use the toilet, wash and put contacts in.
7.30 I leave to get to work at 8.10-8.15.
Wait in line for the shower and get to desk at 8.45am

I don't know how people can get up and leave in 5-10 mins???

I have been known to get up at 7am and leave at 7.30 but I don't enjoy it.

I start at 7:30. Up at 6, quick once round the block with the dog, cycling gear on, glass of water and a banana and on the road for about 6:30. 10 miles to work gets me there at 5 past 7 and showered, shaved and uniform on for 7:20.

I have always been a bit of an early bird, a lie in for me at the weekends is 9am at the very latest!! But I personally have never got my head round why people set an alarm 30 mins before they have to get up,(even though I know lots of people do) I would rather have another 30 mins undisturbed sleep

Alarm off at 5.30, have 5 min snooze. Get up, wash, dress etc. Tiny walk for the dog (she's nearly 16 so patience is required!!). Quick ciggie and a herbal tea, grab my grub for work and leave around 6.20 a.m. Strip wash at work and sitting at desk for 7!
