Might be a big ask, but I've just found out that my new employer (been there since easter) does the cycle to work scheme so thinking I might try and persuade Mrs Blacksheep that I can have a new bike
But what to get?
My current bikes are:
60's Carlton Road bike with 5 gears which is nice to ride but now a bit worn out
on-one inbred set up as a singlespeed which has been my do everything mountain bike for the past 8 years or more!
I used to go everywhere on the Carlton, it was my main transport but I've moved and work is too far away to cycle every day and life requires me to not be spending the amount of time needed on the commute (undermines the whole 'cycle to work' thing really)
Where we live now is very hilly (police close half the roads when it's snowing due to how steep they are hilly) with easy access to the countryside with lots of trails and bridalways to explore so I'm tempted to join in with the other people round and about and get a full suspension mountain bike, but not a lightweight XC bike as I'll still belt it down rough decents and batter my way over things in the same manner I always have on hardtails.
So, while I fancy a new road bike, my question is will I really use it or would I get more enjoyment out of a mountain bike?
Either way, it has to be steel framed, I don't like how aluminium feels and I don't do carbon.
Perhaps I should just order a nice groupset for the inbred and get some gears on it.
