What TV are you watching?

Have just finished both series of Top of the Lake in the last fortnight. I was in London last weekend and there were several billboards in tube stations plugging it.

First series was a bit weird the way it stayed silent for a few seconds when it shot from scene to scene, but the New Zealand scenery was amazing. A dark underlying theme of sexual abuse and a sometimes far fetched plot. I probably would have given up on it but got intrigued and wanted to see how it ended.

The second series was better, a theme if human trafficking and sexual slavery.......depressing stuff really.

A binge watch of the first seasons (I'm about to start S2) as well as new episodes from s3. Really good.

Just watched the two programmes of the series where some four years spend six weeks at a nursery in an old people's home. Amazing.

Loved that. My favourite bit was actually when it came up in the final credits that the children's visits were continuing. That can only have been because they told their parents they wanted to go and see their friend...no-one would have made them go.

Watched the final two episodes last night. Excellent stuff and successfully pulled itself back from the slightly disappointing third series.

People Just do Nothing is back, and as good as ever. Grindah has lost the plot completely, Miche is even more deluded than ever and it's all going very wrong for Chabuddy. Great show that manages to be funny, and a bit tragic simultaneously.

Four eps into Top of the Lake - it's a lorra laughs. Really can't see what the daughter sees in that greasy pimp - he must be one of the most repellent individuals ever portrayed on screen. Mind you, her mother gives him a run for his money.

Just watched The Night Manager, Hiddleswift and Olivia Colman were the weak links I think, Hidders was ok as a night manager but not as an undercover agent and Colman didn't cut it as a head of dept. Story seemed a bit wholey in places, I haven't read the book so can't compare from a story POV. In the main it was perfectly acceptable viewing but could have been better.

Rick and Morty (Netflix)
Rewatching this from the first series - scabrously funny still, and has kept its edge nicely into series 3, which is now trickling out an episode a week.

Orphan Black (Netflix)
Over five seasons, there are obviously going to be stronger and weaker arcs, but overall, this has been excellent. Refreshing to see a female led action series, and lead Tatiana Maslany has been brilliant playing the clones (on occasion, mind meltingly, playing a clone pretending to be one of the other clones). The end of the story was a fitting one, focussed on the relationships between the sisters, and the way that their strengths and weaknesses make them stronger together.

I was watching 'Chasing Classic Cars' on TV earlier
It was an episode featuring one of my all time favourites
Granted, even the 'baby' version would be more than enough to scare 99% of people witless (definitely including me!)

So, imagine what the 'big one; could do
Well, for one thing

In 1967, without any fancy electronic engine management, fuel injection, turbocharging, aerodynamics, etc....., a driver by the name of Dick Smith drove one on the Daytona Speedway (NASCAR circuit), & touched 198MPH (the fastest ever touched by that model)
Standard 'big' cars, were reputed to be good for 165MPH (gearing dependant)

Just finishing first series of House of Cards on Netflix - bit late to the party but hey-ho.

Enjoying it so far. Spacey is a great actor plus I like the little 'talk to the viewer' snippets that reveal his innermost thoughts.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist reluctantly combine to take on The Hand.

Superb story telling from start to finish

Can't wait for The Punisher
