There is a simple reason for that - I watch where I'm going and steer round or bunnyhop over things that would cause such punctures. I don't bump up over kerbs, avoid debris in the road and watch out for potholes.
The problem comes when the road is a mass of potholes, bumps and ridges running across the whole surface. I have about 1 1/2 miles at the beginning and end of every ride on road surface that I wouldn't choose to take a road bike on if it wasn't the only way in and out of my house. I take it very slowly, but I figure the best option for that situation is to pump my tyres up harder than would normally be recommended for someone my weight, and hope it helps to prevent pinch punctures.
