And you will still be regretting it 5 hours later...

I love kippers - the gift of food that keeps on giving. Just when you think you've lost the flavour, another burp comes to overpower and overwhelm your senses of smell and taste.

Enjoy!

Barnsley Market occasionally had smoked sprats, which to the casual eye looked raw.

Good fun to drop a couple down your throat in the office.

Had a kipper for my lunch about 20 mins ago.

I think I am going to regret it.;)

With brown bread and butter? Splendid things, kippers. But opinions diverge as to which are the finest. Manx? Craster? Mallaig? I reckon Fortune's of Whitby are in the running. Never mind the lingering kipperiness - my advice is to invest in some lapsang souchong tea or a few bottles of Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier and just keep the smoky thing going throughout the afternoon...

Yep BB and butter it was. I'm not to sure where these came from, most likely Whitby.

Excellent. If you have any particularly objectionable bosses or colleagues, you might consider eructating in their general direction .

Mmmm just idly thinking of smoked haddock and poached eggs now - what a breakfast!

It's Manx - there is no competition. The finest breakfast for those embarking on the Millenium Way - one walker eats them and 3 get to enjoy the flavour all day!

Lapsang souchong tea is the work of Satan (or Hitler, or Stalin - I don't discriminate). It is exactly like drinking tea which has been strained through the ashes of a coal fire and then pee'd on by an 'intact' tom cat.

Please don't ask me how I know this...

I must admit I incline toward the Manx. Try the Rauchbier, then, if lapsang is, er, not your thing. It's an acquired taste, but worth it. It really calls for smoked sausages, but it will more than stand up to a kipper....

Thank you for the tip - though I can't help thinking that the only thing robust enough to stand up to a kipper is 20 Benson & Hedges!
