What was your dad's best car?

My dad had a later MK 4 2.0 ghia. Shame he never had a Mk3 a 2000E or something. I really like higher model Mk3 Cortina's and Mk1 Escort's (RS2000 & Mexico) the rest of older Fords do very little for me.




Thats lovely. Love older Italian car's, I always wanted a late 70's early 80's Lancia Beta. Common sense told me not to though.

I very nearly bought Lancia Beta many years ago, luckily I came to my senses too and got something else instead.

That was a cool car. I can't remember if it was a good car, but it was cool. He actually gave it away to a hitch hiker the day before he was going out to Rhodesia for a year. He told us, he was giving a lift to this guy he'd obviously never met before, the guy liked it. Dad said, it's yours if you want it... i don't think the guy could believe his luck

Hmm ... would a car like that still be reliable today? Would it be serviceable? Replacement parts?

I like the look of older cars, but don't like the idea of spending all weekend every weekend working on them, and then breaking down somewhere in the lake district or something. A more reliable Japanese car however...

There quite a few people over on PPC dropping modern engines in older cars, so getting the best of both worlds. MkI / II Escorts with Zetec/Duratec engines. Lotus Esprit with Lexus V8. Lots of clever engineers.

Pretty much since my teens I've fancied the idea of a classic car, but stripped out with modern components. Always thought the idea would be totally impossible - to discover that not only is it possible, but there's a whole SCENE with it's own magazine for it has just made the thought of learning to drive suddenly seem appealing again

Before I was even a twinkle in his lustful eye ( before he'd even met my mum) I believ my dad owned one of these:

a 1930's Riley 6/12 which is kinda cool.

As far as I know this was one of his first carwhich, considering he passed his driving test in about 1955-56 isn't too remarkable.

Adrian S Flux. if its got wheels they will insure it. and not at too horrific a price either. it like everything- there are specialists who can do it because they understand it. thats why i can get cheap bike insurance , i us e a specialist.

I saw someone mentioned a P5 Coupe as well. God, i'd have loved one of those, always admired them.
